Baroque Literature

(Sam Elsley)

The Baroque is a period and the style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance (an un-restraint of youthfulness), and grandeur (magnificence) in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music.

Baroque literature is often recognized for its use of metaphors, as well as its analogies. Poets of the Baroque time period often
sought unusual metaphors, which they then examined in often extensive detail. Their verse also recognize a taste for paradox, and deliberately inventive and unusual turns of phrase.
