Decorative, Symbolic Art:

Symbolism in art began in the late 19th century. It first began in France as a continuation of the romanticism era and as a reaction to the approach to impressionism, realism and naturalism. Symbolism refers to the use of symbols or symbolic photos to create an allegoric meaning. Symbolists believed art should only be viewed in a way that showed the meaning indirectly. Symbolism consisted of a broad geographical range, venturing from Europe to Russia and even America.
